The Specifications of a Tablet PC

iPad Display Item

When the iPad was released, it opened the floodgates to a new world of tablets. These portable, but powerful, computers have become a popular addition to many offices and homes, with more and more people turning to the tablet computer to address growing computing needs. Still, understanding the specifications of a tablet computer can help you select one that is most likely to meet your needs. Consider the following four specifications when selecting your next hand-held computer.

  1. Size: Remember, that the size of the screen will impact you in two ways. A larger screen may increase the overall functionality of the computer, but it will also make it weigh more. We are really talking about the difference between a 7 inch screen and a 12 inch screen – but the difference can be very large.
  2. Storage: Like any computer, the amount of storage on the tablet you select is critical. Most of today’s tablets offer standard 16, 32, or 64 GBs. Remember, some versions will not allow you to add additional storage.
  3. Battery Life: Carefully review the specifications of the battery on each model you are considering. Some have as many as 12 hours of battery life, with others having considerably less. The battery life will absolutely impact the functionality of your machine, so consider carefully.
  4. Connection: Today’s tablet computers have two different connection methodologies – 3G and Wi-Fi. A model which relies on WiFi will typically cost less money. The 3G models will offer you greater flexibility.

Are the Media Players Worth It?

There are a lot of websites out there dedicated to selling, or even giving away one media playing program or another. Sometimes it’s because a company wants to show off what it can do in order to promote its other software. On other occasions, it’s about making some money for a truly different, sometimes superior type of media player. However, there are so many solutions out there that it seems a trifle redundant to even use these programs.

For one thing, it’s possible to simply download songs off of Youtube as simple MP3s. When you can play an MP3 with a simple, vanilla version of the media playing software that natively comes with every modern operating system, why would you even need to invest the time into downloading an additional program? Consider that sometimes programs of this nature are just attractively packages trojan horses that deliver malicious code into your computer when you install them, and it becomes clear that sometimes using this kind of software just isn’t worth the ultimate problems doing so can cause.

On the other hand, sometimes you want to play one of the rare songs that Youtube or your prepaid cell phones do not have. In a situation like this, you may only find the song on some kind of crazy foreign site, and it becomes more reasonable to download a new type of media player. In addition to that, sometimes the native player just grates on a person’s nerves, as Windows Media Player undoubtedly does to some devout Microsoft-bashers. Ultimately, it can be a very challenging choice, to either use what came with your system or to just download something new.

Using Social Media for Networking

When times are great, the customers flood in the door and little thought goes into marketing. However, in lean times businessmen find themselves needing to practically drag them in off the street.

Although networking has always had its place in a marketing plan, today it is a part of making sure those doors stay open. Generating interest in the company’s product or services by using social media to spread the word is helping many companies increase business.

Businesses today need an Internet presence – that is not disputed, however it is not enough just to be out there. A website does little good if nobody finds it. This is where using social media is very beneficial. People on social media sites will take your message and send it to their friends, who in turn send to theirs, and so on – the true purpose of social networking!

To be successful a business must add value to the lives of their potential customer. One way is to write informative articles and blogs. Post them on your website and then post links on social media sites. The articles should be interesting and useful. For example, a chiropractor posts an article about how to have a healthy back on his website. The link could then be used in various places on the Internet including social media sites.

When you consider that the incredible amount of time spent on social media, it is crucial to harness this audience. According to a national survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation, those between 8 and 18 spend over 53 hours each week. As this group enters their income producing years, where they spend their money is going to be greatly influenced by their time online.

The more your message is seen, the more likely your company becomes front of mind. This means you are the first thing that a person thinks of when looking for your type of product. Get your message out there and get it out there often and you will soon see those doors flooded once again regardless of the economic times!

Are Bands all That’s Left on Myspace?

At one point in modern history, Myspace was just about everyone’s favorite place to get social and make friends. However, in the time since then, a lot of people have defected to places like Facebook, Twitter and even the fabled “real world.” Sometimes it seems as if the only people left on Myspace are either in a band or like to collect friendships with bands. One wonders if there is any other appeal to this prodigal child of early social networking.

While Myspace was defiinitely not the first social networking site, it was early enough to beat Facebook but late enough to be little more than a clone of Friendster. Naturally, the fact that Myspace was only coded up in about 10 days didn’t help its staying power or ultimate functionality very much. Over time, less and less people have used Myspace, to the point where it is easy to wonder if the site still has a purpose. However, one part of society has found great success on this social network: bands.

While being in a band naturally confers advantages to one’s success at attracting members of the opposite sex and not having to hear during old age, Myspace confers advantages to a band who seeks to use it. If you are a part of a band on Myspace, you tend to attract the attention of potential fans and promoters, which can result in more shows and better ticket sales in the process. However, the bands themselves and their hangers-on seem to be the supremely dominant group who still cling to Myspace, in spite of the pressure to go elsewhere.

Will Myspace Survive?

Sometimes a website is created with the best of intentions, but ultimately falls by the wayside when something better comes along. In some cases, a website can become so unpopular or neglected that it might as well cease to exist at all. In cases like that, it might actually be better for the owner to simply remove the site from the Web and let it be fondly remembered by anyone who cares to do so.

Myspace is a great example of a social networking site that has declined over time. While this was once one of the most heavily trafficked sites by people who have a social agenda on the Internet, today its use is primarily by bands and people who simply prefer it to playing Farmville.  While Myspace might not be going anywhere right this moment, one has to wonderwhat will continue to power the site’s survival, let alone a continued purpose. If a website serves very few people, how can it hope to survive over the long haul?

The most likely way Myspace, Friendster and other fallen social networking websites are probably going to be able to survive is through evolving into an increasingly niched existence. While being a general website is no longer as viable an option as it once was because a small number of hugely successful websites have dominated that concept, niches still do well. If Myspace can successfully repurpose itself as some manner of niched website and properly serve its visitors’ wants and needs that way, it may be able to continue onward, and it may even grow itself into something of a cult phenomenon.

The New Must-Have Gadget

The latest thing in gadgetry is the new tablet technology. There are several features that make them much more desirable than laptops, notebooks, and sometimes even many cell phones.

Tablets vs. Notebooks

Tablets provide some different technology that makes them preferable for people working with a lot of text. Text can be manipulated more easily and directly with a stylus instead of having to type or click a mouse. This makes it easier to move things around, add to or delete from what is seen on the screen. This is especially convenient during lectures for both the teacher and student. Students can also have textbooks on their handheld device, which would make the backpack lighter.

Tablets vs. Cell Phones

The tablets are a great convenience over regular cell phones; they even have advantages over Smartphones. If you use a GPS very often, you will find it easier to use on a Tablet. You will have better interface with the Internet for all of those needs such as Facebook or other social sites. There are tablets that, when combined with a Smartphone, act much the same as either a touchscreen phone or a laptop.

Tablets vs. Laptops

Having a tablet at your disposal probably won’t completely replace your other gadgets, but it can really make life easier. The smaller size is likely the winning feature of the tablets. With the WiFi connect-ability and small size, they can go places that you wouldn’t want to carry your laptop. Tablets also make possible actual signatures. They also make art higher quality and easier with the stylus and variety of colors.

The Peril of Online TV

There was once a time when people simply sat in one spot watching a collection of colored lights flickering this way and that. Back in the old days, TV was a simple passtime that people who had nothing better to do after work would use to pretend they were doing something constructive before they went to sleep. However, when computers and the Internet became popular, this trend could have ended. Unfortunately, that trend has returned with a vengeance.

While the times have gone beyond merely watching a few channels, and the Internet has gone into more sites than a person could visit in a lifetime, there has been a disturbing trend surfacing to bridge the gap between these two ways to engage one’s energy. Nowadays, one can watch TV on the Internet, and be just as slothful in front of a computer as was once the trend in front of TVs the world over. For more and more people, going to websites like Youtube to watch a short video has turned into watching entire series online.

As these series take the time given to them and throw it into the abyss, one has to consider the implications here. When a person has a computer, the purpose is ostensibly to interact and contribute through its use. However, when one uses the massive power of their computer and its connection to the Internet as little more than a means to vegetate and avoid thinking, why did they go online in the first place? The Internet’s greatest power is in allowing human beings to contribute regardless of their station. So simply becoming passive seems like a large regression.

How to Earn a Living Online

An example of a synopsis of an infomercial wit...

Image via Wikipedia

A lot of people think that the businesses putting up late night infomercials claiming to be able to make thousands of dollars per month while working from home are simply scams. While it isn’t possible to substantiate every claim ever made in an infomercial, you don’t need to buy any kind of info product to make money online. It has nothing to do with selling a product of your own, although many online entrepreneurs do so.

You can make your living online through filling client needs. While it might initially seem like going online and looking for jobs is too easy, the fact that many people online are too busy playing to think of making money makes for a lot of openings. Right now, the Internet is booming, and your skills can be a nice side income if you aren’t afraid to work. Then, when you’ve made some money, you can invest it through peer lending or into the stock market. The entire thing is legal, and while making a decent living through manual online labor isn’t easy, it is fairly simple and straightforward.

The major trick to earning money online isn’t about having a great idea. Some people make a decent income simply through writing. Every day new websites are built, and existing websites are overhauled to be better. If you have graphic design, coding or writing skills, you can help the owners of these sites to grow their online businesses. In some cases, a freelancer with a robust client base can do exceedingly well without ever having to commute anywhere. You need only find a need and fill it.
